It was a night of musical magic on April 16 as Cerus Quartet—one of the most compelling chamber ensembles of their generation—performed for a sold-out crowd at the Fenimore Art Museum. Presented by Cooperstown Concerts, the group showcased the versatile sound of the saxophone and captivated the audience from its opening notes.
Recognized internationally for dynamic performances, innovative programming, and musical excellence, the quartet seeks to establish the saxophone quartet as a leading voice in 21st-century classical music.
Their command of the stage was powerful: four saxophone virtuosos blending technical brilliance with an easy, charismatic presence that drew listeners in. Each piece highlighted their precision, while the concert showcased the ensemble’s signature versatility, moving seamlessly between classical masterworks and contemporary music. The setting at the intimate theater further amplified the experience, creating a closeness between the artists and audience. See photos below.
This performance, which was rewarded with a well-earned standing ovation, also marked the conclusion of Cooperstown Concerts’ 2025-2026 season.
Earlier in the day, the group devoted time to inspire and connect with very young audiences, with an innovative, free performance and interactive discussion with 400 students from Cooperstown Central School.
